Berkeley Springs Students Criticize Parents for Not Showing Up at the Polls to Vote for the Levy

In a radio ad airing in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia on WDHC 92.9, students criticize their parents for not showing up at the polls in 2013 to vote for the school funding levy.

The levy lost at the polls last year by a vote of 56 percent (1,672) to 44 percent (1,323).

In the radio ad, sponsored by Morgan County Citizens for School Success, a student named Maggie rips her dad for the low voter turnout last year.

“Last time there was only a 25 percent turnout,” Maggie reprimands her dad, Larry. “That’s lame dad.”

Maggie tells her dad that levy funds support James Rumsey Technical Institute.

“A vote for the levy means jobs for my friends,” Maggie says.

“If the levy fails, we’ll be last in the state in per student funding,” Maggie says. “This is too important to leave to the grown ups.”

“Can you give me a ride to the polls?” Larry asks his daughter sheepishly.

“Only if you vote yes for the levy,” Maggie says.
