Beer Garden Style Restaurant Coming to Berkeley Springs

An open air beer garden style restaurant is coming to Fairfax Street in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia.

The restaurant, called BSWV, will be located at 33 Fairfax Street.

A building on the property that housed Portals, Awakenings Health Center and the Himalayan Handicrafts was heavily damaged by an April 2015 fire. The building was eventually torn down, leaving an empty lot. It has remained empty since.

The lot was purchased recently by Trey Johanson and Paul Fogarty, owners of the Fairfax Coffee House, along with Geoffrey and Alice Wendel, owners of Portals, and Charlie Curia.

“It will be a family friendly open air restaurant in the style and tradition of a European beer garden,” Johanson told Morgan County USA. “There will be long tables for community style dining.”

The owners plan on putting up a pavilion toward to the back of the property to cover the bar and kitchen area.

“We are developing plans for a canopy cover, shade areas, some open areas, a performance stage and a dance floor,” Johanson said.

Johanson says she hopes the restaurant will be open by spring or summer 2019.

“We hope to catch the high season,” she said.
