Fourteen belly dancers will perform on the streets of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia on Saturday May 14, 2016 as part of Shimmy Mob and World Belly Dance Day.
Shimmy Mob is an international dance event that includes over 2,400 dancers in 202 cities around the globe.
The objective of the event is to raise funds and awareness for domestic abuse survivors.
The Berkeley Springs Shimmy Mob Team is led by Bellysima Bellydance instructor Angela Petry.
The Shimmy Mob team will perform on May 14 at 4pm at the Berkeley Springs State Park at 5pm on the steps of the Morgan County Courthouse, at 6pm outside Ambrae House, at 7:15pm in the Morgan Arts Council Ice House Theater, and at 8pm at the Bath Water Brew Pub.
This is the fourth year in a row that the team has participated in the charity dance event.
The dancers are raising funds for Stepping Stones to a Brighter Future, a local non-profit that provides financial, emotional and life skills assistance to survivors of domestic violence.
Petry and her Shimmy Mob Team were honored this year at the Berkeley Springs Chamber of Commerce’s 33rd Annual Community Volunteer Day for their fundraising work.
Last year, Berkeley Springs Shimmy Mob raised $3,100 for Stepping Stones to a Brighter Future.
Over the past three years, they have raised over $8,500 by participating in Shimmy Mob.
Donations can be made at the Morgan County Public Library or at Travel Berkeley Springs or at any of the performance venues on Saturday, May 14
The group has been practicing their routine for weeks and will appear in the signature Shimmy Mob T-Shirt, the color of which remains a surprise until May 14.
