Morgan County Commission President Brad Close will not run for re-election.
The first term Commissioner said that the time away from family is the driving force behind not running again.
“While it has been an honor and a privilege to serve the people of Morgan County over the last five years, my first priority must be to my family,” Close said in a statement. “They have been a tremendous source of support during this time and for that I cannot thank them enough.”
“At this juncture in my life, the responsibilities associated with being a County Commissioner are vast and takes a great deal of time away from my family, time that I need to spend with them if I want to be the husband and Dad that they deserve and need. I am very much looking forward to spending more time with Jessica, Taryn, Logan & Juliana.”
Commissioner Close was elected in 2010 and assumed office in 2011.
He has served as Commission President since 2013.
“Morgan County has been great to me and my family. I chose to serve because I wanted to give back to the County that I have called home my entire life and the great people that call it home. I wanted to show other young people that it is our turn to lead and that is a responsibility, not a choice. It has been a blessing and one of the highest honors in my life to serve. I can’t thank the people of Morgan County enough for the opportunity to serve and for the professional/respectful treatment I received while in office. It has been very humbling to have played a part in leading Morgan County over the past few years. While we have accomplished much, there is much left to do and my hope is that we see some bright, fresh minds step forward to serve our great county that we have the blessing of calling home. The future is bright for Morgan County.”
Close’s term expires December 31, 2016.
