Berkeley Springs based rock and roll band Wellvis will release it’s second single – Ain’t You Got No Shame? – next Tuesday September 29.
Bandleader Matt Hahn says Ain’t You Got No Shame? features driving guitars and gutbucket singing, in a style DC music legend Mark Noone described as protest punk pop.
The band’s first single – SuperHIGH – was released in June, 2026.
The inspiration for Ain’t You Got No Shame? is Joseph Welch’s famous chiding of Senator Joseph McCarthy during the televised Army-McCarthy Senate hearings where an exasperated Welch asked the Senator if he had “no sense of decency, at long last.”
“Truth and honesty are two of the fundamental values upon which America was founded,” said bandleader and local retired family doc Matt Hahn.“American children were once taught the story of George Washington cutting down the cherry tree, and when asked, he says – I cannot tell a lie.”
“Such values were America’s true source of success and strength. But our leaders no longer feel the need to tell the truth. All of our problems stem from this. That is the motivation for Ain’t You Got No Shame? It is Wellvis’ – Have you no sense of decency, sir?”
“An exasperated Joseph Welch uttered these famous words, chiding Sen. Joseph McCarthy during the televised Army-McCarthy Senate hearings,” Hahn said.
Hahn describes Wellvis as a granddad ban – a rock and roll band made up of granddad aged players who work hard to bring audiences original rock and roll music that is good for your mental and physical health.
Hahn, a recently retired Berkeley Springs family physician, calls their music “rock and roll that’s good for you.”
