In Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, a fire between the third hole at Cacapon State Park golf course and the horse stables on Saddle Lane burned multiple acres before being extinguished late last night by fire crews from around the area.
High winds blew the fire out of control until fire trucks arrived from around Morgan County and neighboring Virginia.
“Leave it up to good country boys to contain a fire of that size in this wind, my hats off to you,” wrote one woman on social media last night.
“We are so grateful to all the firefighters and everyone involved in taking care of this fire so quickly,” wrote another.
(Update: 12/3/2021 8:09 pm. A previous version of this article reported that “the fire was apparently started by downed power lines.” This was not accurate. There were no power lines in the area of the fire.)
