Once again, the Banana Express Band drew a raucous crowd in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia.
Last night, the Fairfax Coffee House was rocking with the old time music of the young Dunlap family and friends from Winchester, Virginia. It was a party atmosphere. At one point during the evening, Banana Express was joined by Dr. Matt Hahn and Angela Petry for a raucous rendition of the classic country song Jackson.
In an interview after the show, lead guitarist Jack Dunlap and his sister Elizabeth said that they formed the band last year and now play mostly in Winchester and Berkeley Springs. Jack said that eventually, he hopes the band will play at the Grand Ole Opry.
In Berkeley Springs, the band has played many times over the last year at the Troubadour and at the Fairfax Coffee House.
And they will be playing at this year’s Apple Butter Festival at the Berkeley Springs State Park.
Last night, the band featured Jack on guitar, Elizabeth on violin, younger sister Mary on the bass, and friend Gaven Largent on the dobro. Younger sister Sarah is learning how to play the dobro.
Elizabeth said that when she was younger, she listened to a lot of Dixie Chicks and Alison Krauss.
An older brother Buddy plays with the West Virginia bluegrass band Lonesome Highway.
