Things are looking up on Fairfax Street in Berkeley Springs.
The streets and sidewalks are being replaced. (Check out our Interview with Larry Lower of Streetscape here.)
The walls from the burned down building have been stabilized so that the building can be torn down.
Local artists are painting a mural on the wall in front of the vacant lot.
And perhaps most importantly, a new restaurant is coming to the building that housed the Fairfax Coffee House.
It will be called Leonard’s Fairfax House.
It will be run by Ray and Roy Leonard, twin brothers and retired government employees –Roy from Front Royal, Virginia and Ray from Nashville, Tennessee.
And it will be both a breakfast joint — and a Thai fusion restaurant.
Roy is going to be the breakfast guy and he’s going to be baking bread, cinnamon rolls, and muffins on site.
Roy is married to Carrie Lynn and she was holding down the fort when we passed by the store yesterday.
Ray is married to Joy, a Thai cook. So expect, lunch and dinner with a taste of Thai — and then some.
We’re talking Spring Rolls, Thai Beef Salad, Chicken Fingers Thai Style, and building your own lunch bowl — with a variety of noodles, veggies, meats and toppings. And Joy will make Thai specialties to order.
Carrie Lynn says the Leonards are planning on bringing back music nights — which were popular on the restaurant and bar side of the old Fairfax Coffee Shop.
Soft opening planned for late August with a grand opening due in late September.
