No lions and tigers, but almost everything else has hit Berkeley Springs in recent days.

On Saturday night June 29, a more than two hour lightning and thunder show lit up the county, with local residents saying they had never seen anything like it.

“We were in our backyard with friends for a couple of hours,” said one South Morgan resident. “The east sky lit up. And then the west sky lit up. And in between, there were hundreds of lightning bugs lighting up the sky. Then the whole thing repeated itself. And it went on for a couple of hours. It was surreal.”

The lightning reportedly caused a microwave fire in southern Morgan County.

Then this past weekend saw a black bear roaming the streets of downtown Berkeley Springs, crossing the 522 crosswalk at Congress Street from the Morgan County Courthouse to the area of Berkeley Springs State Park.
