Workers began pouring a concrete platform on the new Oakland Road bridge this morning and hope to complete the bridge and reopen Oakland Road to thru traffic by early February 2013.
Workers from the West Virginia Department of Highways began pouring the first half of the bridge platform this morning.
The second half of the bridge platform will be poured in the next couple of weeks.
The workers said that, weather permitting, the bridge should be finished and Oakland Road should be re-opened in early February.
Oakland Road has been closed to thru traffic since November 2012 when workers began tearing down the old Oakland Road bridge — which had deteriorated badly and was beyond repair.
Oakland Road is one half mile south of Cacapon State Park on 522, ten miles south of Berkeley Springs and just 3.7 miles north of the Virginia/West Virginia line.
The bridge is one half mile east of Rt. 522 on Oakland Road.
Most of the Oakland Road traffic is being diverted to Creek Road, Allemong, Luther Michael and Timber Ridge Road.
