Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (R-West Virginia) said today that Congress should vote on President Obama’s plans to bomb Syria.<\/p>\n
Capito appeared on the statewide radio show Talkline with Hoppy Kercheval.<\/p>\n
“We need a vote on this,” Capito said. “People — American citizens — are tired of decisions being made in the international community and then finding out later that maybe it wasn’t in our best interest, that there is a lot more sacrifice than we are willing to make.”<\/p>\n
“This is a time for us to decide as a nation what direction we want to go and how far we want to go,” Capito said.<\/p>\n
Kercheval asked Capito whether the Speaker of the House, John Boehner (R-Ohio), should call the House into session to debate the issue.<\/p>\n
“I don’t think so,” Capito said. “But if it heats up more, if it becomes more imminent, then he can change his mind and call us back in at any time.”<\/p>\n
Kercheval pointed out that the UK Parliament yesterday had a “really great debate yesterday, with intelligent questions and information and then they took a vote and said — no, we are not going to do it.”<\/p>\n
Capito said that if the vote were taken today, she would vote no on a strike on Syria, but more compelling information might change her mind.<\/p>\n
