The construction firm in charge is Trumbull Construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Daniel Watts of the West Virginia Department of Highways told <em>Morgan County USA<\/em> that \u201cthere is a belief that the spill was the result of an act of vandalism.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection has been notified of the spill, Watts said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trumbull Corporation was awarded a $59.8 million contract in October 2020 to build the four-lane US 522 bypass around Berkeley Springs, from just south of Berkeley Springs to WV 9. The project includes three bridges, three intersections and a new interchange with WV 9.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/tank2-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/tank2-1-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5533\" width=\"287\" height=\"215\" srcset=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/tank2-1-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/tank2-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/tank2-1-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/tank2-1-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/tank2-1-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 287px) 100vw, 287px\" \/><\/a><figcaption><em>(Photo: Rick Watson)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Trumbull called in Miller Environmental to mitigate damage from the spill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFuel did run out of the tank, onto the ground, and it did make it\u2019s way into a stream,\u201d Watts said. \u201cI believe they have oil booms and other devices to filter out that fuel oil.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Watts said he didn&#8217;t know how much heating oil spilled onto the ground and into the waterway.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An unknown amount of heating oil spilled earlier this week from a tank at a house on Biser Street in Berkeley Springs into the surrounding soil and into Yellow Spring Run, which runs parallel to Route 9.
