{"id":4982,"date":"2021-01-20T08:02:20","date_gmt":"2021-01-20T13:02:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=4982"},"modified":"2021-01-20T09:01:33","modified_gmt":"2021-01-20T14:01:33","slug":"health-department-opens-door-to-65-and-older-for-covid-vaccine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=4982","title":{"rendered":"Health Department Opens Door to 65 and Older for Covid Vaccine"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Berkeley and Morgan County Health Department has opened the door to residents 65 and older who want the Covid-19 vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/vaccine.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/vaccine.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4983\" width=\"423\" height=\"243\" srcset=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/vaccine.png 1002w, https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/vaccine-300x173.png 300w, https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/vaccine-768x442.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 423px) 100vw, 423px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The program is part of a state wide effort to vaccinate the population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is what the CDC is asking us to do, and we surely don\u2019t want any obstacles in front of us to get more vaccines moving forward,\u201d Governor Jim Justice said. \u201cOur clinics will have the ability to vaccinate 10,000 West Virginians age 65 and older every day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cImagine how many lives we\u2019re saving,\u201d Governor Justice continued. \u201cThree weeks ago, we were thinking that we probably weren\u2019t going to be able to get to people in this age group until April. But then we moved and we really kicked it in gear.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The health department <a href=\"https:\/\/help.gst.com\/vaccinereg\/?fbclid=IwAR1E7AdMXkUafjcYUDCv74659p2AvWDPhArBgjuk0OIeRHji4M0c0wGcGlI\">has set up a website for seniors to register.&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou will need to provide an accurate phone number and email address. Listing of medications and insurance information is not required,\u201d the health department said.\u00a0 \u201cPlease be sure to select your correct county of residence. If you do not have internet access, please call: 304-267-1304.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPlease be patient,\u201d the health department said. \u201cVaccine supplies are still limited as interest in receiving the vaccine continues to grow.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The vaccines will be administered at Berkeley 2000 Recreation Center, 273 Woodbury Avenue, Martinsburg, West Virginia 25404.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Traffic to enter from Woodbury Avenue. Do not arrive any earlier than 15 minutes prior to your appointment time. To assist maintaining of social distancing and flow, upon arrival, you will receive an assigned number from our parking assistants and directed where to park. Please remain in your vehicle until your number is called.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe cannot administer the Covid-19 vaccine to you if you have received any other vaccine within the previous 14 days,\u201d the health department said. \u201cMust bring proof of date of birth.&nbsp; Driver\u2019s license is acceptable. Wear your mask and please remember to stay socially distant. Inside, there are four steps to getting vaccine: Fill Out Form. Show Form.&nbsp; Receive Vaccine. Turn In Form and Exit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ken Reed, who owns Reed\u2019s Pharmacy and is a new member of the West Virginia House of Delegates, said on <em>Eastern Panhandle Talk with Rob and Dave <\/em>last week that he was optimistic about getting the vaccine to those in Morgan County &#8220;who want it.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;There are 18,000 people in Morgan County. There are two pharmacies \u2013 Reed\u2019s and Walgreen\u2019s,\u201d Reed said. \u201cIf they can get me the vaccine within a week or two, we can get most of the people who want the vaccine vaccinated. There are 120,000 some people in Berkeley County but there are a lot more pharmacies. But they open that up and add the health departments and mass clinics.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reed said the Moderna vaccine is easier to use &#8220;because you have thirty days in the refrigerator.&#8221; Reed said the Pfizer vaccine \u201cis much more difficult to use.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reed called the soon to be available Johnson &amp; Johnson vaccine a possible \u201cgame changer\u201d because it\u2019s \u201cone and done.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnd it\u2019s storage requirements are more in line with traditional vaccines. It\u2019s got a shelf life of six months.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>National news outlets are reporting that a significant percentage of health care workers are choosing not to get vaccinated.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CBS News ran a story yesterday titled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/covid-vaccine-health-care-worker-reluctance\/\">\u201cMany health care workers are refusing to get a COVID-19 vaccine.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA significant percentage of doctors, nurses, EMS workers, support staff and other health care employees said they turned down the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines over concerns they may not be safe or effective, according to a recent survey by Surgo Ventures, a non-profit group focused on solving health and social problems,\u201d CBS News reported. \u201cOthers in the health field worried the development of the vaccine had been rushed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Berkeley and Morgan County Health Department has opened the door to residents 65 and older who want the Covid-19 vaccine.
