<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nHahn and Kunkel are running for Congress in the second Congressional district, a seat currently held by Congressman Alex Mooney (R). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hahn will face off June 9 against Mooney in the Republican primary. Kunkel is running unopposed in the Democratic primary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The race was put on to bring attention to childhood hunger in West Virginia and to raise $10,000 for the Boys & Girls Club of the Eastern Panhandle which provides meals for local children in need.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because of the school closings caused by the coronavirus pandemic, demand for meals in the Eastern Panhandle is four times the usual number. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFood insecurity is very real for our families and many other children in our community. We have seen an exponential increase in our meal program \u2013 nearly four times \u2013 since the stay-at-home order began on April 16th,\u201d said Stacie Rohn, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of the Eastern Panhandle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rohn said that they have delivered more than forty-five thousand meals since March 17 to local families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nIn Morgan County, the local Boys & Girls Club delivers between 75 and 100 home cooked meals per day — meals like chicken pot pie, spaghetti and casseroles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFamilies come and pick up meals every Monday for children 18 and under,\u201d Rohn said. \u201cParents have to let us know that they are picking up for a child. We hand out meals until they are gone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both Hahn and Kunkel urged residents to donate to the Boys & Girls Club.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While Hahn won the road race, Kunkel says she\u2019s hoping to raise more money than Hahn for the Boys & Girls Club.
