Dale Carlisle\u2019s Cold Run Valley Winery has been open for four months<\/a> and he can\u2019t keep up with demand for his fruit wines \u2013 including apple, strawberry, black raspberry, blueberry, peach and mixed fruit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He grows many of the berries on his own property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Carlisle is open to suggestions for other types of wine. He said three people have already suggested paw paw wine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He plans on expanding his winery to include a pizza oven, an events center and a post and beam barn that can host weddings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A home builder for most of his adult life, Carlisle and his wife Natalie, who works at the Post Office in Great Cacapon, moved to Berkeley Springs in 1992.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Carlisle says he\u2019s been making wine for himself for more than 25 years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n When he decided to open a winery, he looked to the Virginia wineries for advice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cBut the wineries in Virginia wouldn\u2019t help me,\u201d Carlisle said. \u201cThey were so snobbish. But I came across a winery in Weston, West Virginia \u2013 Lambert\u2019s. <\/a>Those people were so nice \u2013 down home West Virginia hospitality. And they were very helpful. Lambert\u2019s is my mentor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Carlisle says he gets much of his business from people just driving by. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMany people come in from Pennsylvania,\u201d Carlisle says.
