{"id":4041,"date":"2019-05-21T10:00:08","date_gmt":"2019-05-21T14:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=4041"},"modified":"2019-05-23T11:14:06","modified_gmt":"2019-05-23T15:14:06","slug":"mccauley-hearing-scheduled-may-24-in-morgan-county-magistrate-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=4041","title":{"rendered":"McCauley Hearing Scheduled May 24 in Morgan County Magistrate Court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A preliminary hearing will be held at the Morgan County Magistrate Court in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia on May 24 at 2 pm in connection with the criminal murder complaint filed against Andy McCauley, Jr. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Magistrate K.M Ambrose has been assigned to the case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CLJguC-bLVo\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">McCauley was charged on May 16 with the murder of 15-year old Riley Crossman.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/apps.wv.gov\/OIS\/OffenderSearch\/RJA\/Offender\/Details?Id=9qNGdPRSWUncZGChbRvRNuvu86Rsf2xMQqqXXyt1BPV2D2ozsh0VkTbkj6OxInyb%2FOi0Y5cnCBNUqlVqLxfdm2Z0%2Fvo1WoAqCwBJn2jRY1zvu7yCzbrJqPiTBOpCU3HnoS8zTIJl5w2Xk%2F1v%2BeV1HaaESFDY%2Bef%2BgBCMKtwxcDE%3D\">McCauley is being held without bond<\/a> at the Eastern Regional Jail in Martinsburg.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At a press conference on May 16, Morgan County Sheriff K.C. Bohrer said that Crossman\u2019s body was scheduled to be transported to the West Virginia Medical Examiner for an autopsy last Friday. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Medical Examiner said they only release information about autopsies to the family and to law enforcement. There has been no word from law enforcement on the results of the autopsy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/mccauley4.pdf\">According to the criminal murder complaint filed against McCauley<\/a>, Crossman\u2019s body was found \u201cin the area of Tuscarora Pike just east of Swinging Bridge Road over a steep drop off which was later determined (personal clothing, dental spacers) to be Riley Crossman.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe body also had what appeared to be dry wall mud on her right shoulder and right foot. The location of possible drywall mud on the body is consistent with the alert by a cadaver dog to the rear of (McCauley\u2019s) truck where drywall mud was also located.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the the Thursday press conference, Bohrer was asked by reporters how Crossman was killed. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI can\u2019t get into that at this time until we have a thorough autopsy,\u201d Bohrer said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">McCauley is no stranger to the criminal justice system, with multiple charges brought against him in both Maryland and West Virginia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2013 in Berkeley County, <a href=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/mccauley.pdf\">Andy J. McCauley Jr. was charged with delivering cocaine and conspiracy to deliver cocaine charges<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/McCauley2.pdf\">He pled no contest to the one count of conspiracy to deliver cocaine<\/a> and was fined $1,000. The judge in the case ruled that McCauley \u201cby virtue of his plea of no contest, now stands convicted of a felony.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the felony murder complaint filed last week against McCauley by the Morgan County Sheriff\u2019s office, Crossman was last seen at her residence on May 7, 2019 at 7 pm \u201cby her grandmother.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">McCauley was the boyfriend of Riley Crossman\u2019s mother Chantal Oakley.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe mother (Chantal) advised when she got home that day at approximately 2300 hours (11 pm), she saw Riley\u2019s bedroom light on (door closed) and Andy McCauley was downstairs in the reclining chair asleep and her other sons were also downstairs asleep in the living room area.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cChantal advised that when she woke up that morning at approximately 717 hours (7:17 am), she checked Riley\u2019s bedroom and did not see her there and assumed she walked to school.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sheriff\u2019s office said that an eye witness \u201cobserved a green in color Dodge 2500 work truck with a ladder rack, backed into the residence\u201d at approximately 10 a.m. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Morgan County Sheriff deputies interviewed McCauley on May 10 regarding his whereabouts on May 8 at 10 am.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cDuring this interview, multiple inconsistencies were noted,\u201d Corporal F.H. Edwards wrote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">McCauley told the police officers that he \u201cdoes not have a license and typically does not drive.\u201d (Many of McCauley\u2019s interactions with law enforcement over the years had to do with driving without a valid license.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among the inconsistencies noted in the criminal complaint &#8212; \u201cAndy would not admit to driving a vehicle (Green Dodge truck) and later admitted to driving it\u201d and \u201cAndy stated he does not shoot and he sniffs drugs, where Andy stated he goes to the house to shoot his drugs.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to a Facebook post by Lance Crossman, Riley\u2019s father, viewing services for Riley Crossman will be held on May 25 from 3 to 5 pm and again from 7 to 9 pm at the Brown Funeral Home located at 287 Arden Nollville Rd, Inwood, West Virginia. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 26th at 3 pm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe want these services to be an expression of love and remembrance for Riley,\u201d Lance Crossman wrote. \u201cPlease refrain from discussing any trial details. Please do not ask the family for details surrounding her death. We would ask that only Riley&#8217;s life is on your minds at the service.
