{"id":4025,"date":"2019-05-07T13:33:03","date_gmt":"2019-05-07T17:33:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=4025"},"modified":"2019-05-07T16:50:15","modified_gmt":"2019-05-07T20:50:15","slug":"bill-lands-on-caloric-and-omega-balance-for-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=4025","title":{"rendered":"Bill Lands on Caloric and Omega Balance for Health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bill Lands is out with a new booklet.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oO5zrAzEve4\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s called \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/fastlearner.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/4June_Repairs.pdf\">Recipe Repairs: How to Do It and Why We Need It.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lands wants to help people in Morgan County live a more healthful life.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a two step process.<\/p>\n<p>One step is caloric balance \u2013 burn more calories than you eat.<\/p>\n<p>The second step is an balance between Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you eat 2000 calories a day and only expend 1500 a day, your body accumulates those extra calories as fat,\u201d Lands told Russell Mokhiber, host of <em>This Week in Morgan County.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s the beginning of a problem. The fat predisposes you to a whole series of other chronic disorders that would be nice to avoid. The idea is \u2013 try to burn all the calories that you eat. And once in a while, try to burn more calories than you eat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lands is a world renowned expert on the balance between Omega 3 and Omega 6 high unsaturated fatty acids (HUFAs). Both are essential fatty acids, but Lands wants his neighbors to \u201ceat the 3 and nix the 6.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the United States, because of our processed diets, there is a HUFA imbalance with more six and less three.<\/p>\n<p>Other cultures, like the Japanese, the Mediterranean and the Inuit, have a better balance \u2013 that\u2019s primarily because of more fish in their diet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the United States, our diets are now out of balance,\u201d Lands said. \u201cSeafood is the great way to bring it back into balance &#8212; tuna, sardines, herring, mackerel &#8212; all of those are good Omega 3 foods. The simplest way to a good balance is to start eating seafood. If there is more 6 than 3, you have a negative number.
