{"id":3570,"date":"2018-07-10T15:57:01","date_gmt":"2018-07-10T19:57:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=3570"},"modified":"2018-07-10T16:04:56","modified_gmt":"2018-07-10T20:04:56","slug":"work-to-repair-cold-run-valley-road-begins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=3570","title":{"rendered":"Work to Repair Cold Run Valley Road Begins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">State highway crews began work today on fixing the gaping hole in Cold Run Valley Road in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3547\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3547\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3547\" src=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/coolfont-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/coolfont-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/coolfont-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/coolfont.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3547\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cold Run Valley Road After the June 3 Flood<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Excavation equipment was brought in this week, and the work crews began digging out the road and culvert pipe that were ripped apart by the rains and flooding that hit the area Sunday June 3. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cold Run Valley Road has been closed since June 3. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once the damaged part of the roadway is cleared, two cranes will be brought in to put in place the new box culverts. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">West Virginia Division of Highways engineer Lee Thorne said that he\u2019s aiming to have Cold Run Valley Road opened by the end of next week \u2013 or Friday July 20.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thorne said that a recent dry spell gave work crews an opening to begin work today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thorne said box culverts last longer than pipes \u2013 and have a greater carrying capacity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThese box culverts are going to carry a larger volume of water and there is much less chance of overtopping and washing out,\u201d Thorne said. \u201cThey have more capacity than the pipes do and they will last longer.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>State highway crews began work today on fixing the gaping hole in Cold Run Valley Road in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia.
