{"id":3548,"date":"2018-06-18T18:00:05","date_gmt":"2018-06-18T22:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=3548"},"modified":"2018-06-19T07:33:15","modified_gmt":"2018-06-19T11:33:15","slug":"cold-run-valley-road-in-berkeley-springs-might-be-closed-another-two-to-three-weeks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=3548","title":{"rendered":"Cold Run Valley Road in Berkeley Springs Might be Closed Another Two to Three Weeks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The flood last Sunday put a beating on roads in and around Berkeley Springs, West Virginia.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3547\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3547\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3547\" src=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/coolfont-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/coolfont-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/coolfont-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/coolfont.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3547\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cold Run Valley Road After the June 3 Flood<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cold Run Valley Road &#8212; the road to Coolfont &#8212; was one of those hardest hit. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A river ran through it and opened a gaping hole, closing the road to through traffic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt was washed out pretty severely,\u201d said Lee Thorne, the District Five Engineer at the West Virginia Division of Highways.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thorne said that he\u2019s going to talk with Morgan County supervisor Rodney Crowell soon to see if they can do a temporary fix to allow one lane by &#8212; but if not, it might take two to three weeks before the road is open to traffic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHe\u2019s going to look to see if we can open it up to one way traffic,\u201d Thorne said. \u201cWe already had plans to put in a box culvert. The culvert is on site. It was moved in before this heavy rain. It might take a week to set in the boxes. But there are so many variables &#8212; weather, equipment breakdowns. We could do it in a week\u2019s time &#8212; at ten to twelve hour days. But it might take two or three weeks unless we can do something temporary.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thorne said that the Powerhouse Bridge could be open by tomorrow. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And the Rockford Bridge and Route 127 in Hampshire County could be open by Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe majority of our guys are at Route 127,\u201d Thorne said. \u201cEverything is looking good to have it opened by Friday.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe\u2019re getting pothole complaints from everywhere,\u201d Thorne said. \u201cWe are trying to get emergency access to people. Potholes are something we are going to put a little lower on our priority list until we can get the major things done.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSometimes we are doing temporary fixes to get people in and out, then do a more permanent fix later.
