{"id":340,"date":"2012-09-29T12:31:40","date_gmt":"2012-09-29T16:31:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=340"},"modified":"2012-09-29T12:31:40","modified_gmt":"2012-09-29T16:31:40","slug":"walk-across-maryland-bang-up-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=340","title":{"rendered":"Walk Across Maryland Bang Up Success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The ninth annual Walk Across Maryland this morning was a bang up success.<\/p>\n<p>More than 150 people walked the entire length of the state of Maryland.<\/p>\n<p>That would be about 1.9 miles from the Pennsylvania line through Hancock, Maryland to the Potomac River.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_AO8PWx_oAw\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Many of the walkers dipped their toes into the Potomac to celebrate finishing the grueling downhill march.<\/p>\n<p>Walk Across Maryland is the brainchild of Matthew Hahn, a family family medical doctor in Hancock.<\/p>\n<p>Hahn spends much of his time in the community promoting public health, including nutritious food, exercise, love and caring.<\/p>\n<p>Hahn said that the event keeps growing and that this year was the biggest turnout ever.<\/p>\n<p>The event drew walkers from Hancock, Maryland, Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, and from as far away as Hagerstown, Maryland.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Kligerman provided musical entertainment on his accordion.<\/p>\n<p>Hancock High School cheerleaders cheered on the walkers with walking specific chants, including this one:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Who walks the road? The walkers walk the road. And when the walkers walk the road they walk it all the way down.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Not all of the participants walked the 1.9 miles.<\/p>\n<p>Some jogged.<\/p>\n<p>Infants got free rides in strollers.<\/p>\n<p>Sinclair Hamilton, who runs <a href=\"http:\/\/www.riverrunbnb.com\/\">River Run Bed and Breakfast<\/a>, said that he had a packed house this weekend and had to serve his customers breakfast, so he was late.<\/p>\n<p>But after breakfast, he did ride his recumbent bike over to join the walkers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hahnandnelson.com\/\">Hahn &amp; Nelson Family Medicine<\/a>, the sponsors of the event, posted inspirational sayings along the way, including this one from Soren Kierkegaard:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have walked myself into my best thoughts.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And this one:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The best remedy for a short temper is a long walk.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The ninth annual Walk Across Maryland this morning was a bang up success.
