{"id":3245,"date":"2018-02-10T13:11:34","date_gmt":"2018-02-10T18:11:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=3245"},"modified":"2018-02-10T13:23:29","modified_gmt":"2018-02-10T18:23:29","slug":"lissa-lucas-dragged-out-of-west-virginia-house-judiciary-hearing-for-listing-oil-and-gas-contributions-to-members","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=3245","title":{"rendered":"Lissa Lucas Dragged Out of West Virginia House Judiciary Hearing For Listing Oil and Gas Contributions to Members"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lissa Lucas traveled the 100 miles from her home in Cairo, West Virginia to the state capitol in Charleston yesterday to testify against an oil and gas industry sponsored bill (HB 4268) that would allow companies to drill on minority mineral owners\u2019 land without their consent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/videopress.com\/embed\/rjuRZxsw\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<script src=\"https:\/\/videopress.com\/videopress-iframe.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lucas began to testify to the House Judiciary Committee, but a few minutes in, her microphone was turned off. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And Lucas was dragged out of the room.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lissalucas.com\/\">Lucas is running for the House of Delegates<\/a> from Ritchie County, which has been overrun by the fracking industry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAs I tried to give my remarks at the public hearing this morning on HB 4268 in defense of our constitutional property rights, I got dragged out of House chambers,\u201d Lucas said. \u201cWhy? Because I was listing out who has been donating to Delegates on the Judiciary Committee.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lucas took to the podium and began by pointing out that \u201cthe people who are going to be speaking in favor of this bill are all going to be paid by the industry.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAnd the people who are going to be voting on this bill are often also paid by the industry,\u201d Lucas said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI have to keep this short, because the public only gets a minute and 45 seconds while lobbyists can throw a gala at the Marriott with whiskey and wine and talk for hours to the delegates,\u201d Lucas said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Lucas was referring to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/1803168179757621\/\">Whiskey, Wine and Policy Winter Legislative Reception at the Charleston Marriott Hotel<\/a> on February 7 sponsored by the Shale Energy Alliance.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lucas then began to read the oil and gas donations to the members of the House Judiciary Committee, including the chairman, John Shott (R-Mercer). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cJohn Shott. First Energy $2,000. Appalachian Power $2,000. Steptoe &amp; Johnson \u2013 that\u2019s a gas and oil law firm \u2013 $2,000. Consol Energy $1,000. EQT $1,000. And I could go on.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No she couldn\u2019t. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because at that point, Shott had enough.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMiss Lucas, we ask that no personal comments be made,\u201d Shott said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis is not a personal comment,\u201d Lucas said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt is a personal comment and I am going to call you out of order if you are talking about individuals on the committee,\u201d Shott said. \u201cIf you would, just address the bill. If not, I would ask you to just step down.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lucas barged ahead to Delegate Jason Harshbarger (R-7) \u2013 who she will face off against in November for the seat from Ritchie County.
