{"id":3240,"date":"2018-02-07T12:14:36","date_gmt":"2018-02-07T17:14:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=3240"},"modified":"2018-02-07T12:45:56","modified_gmt":"2018-02-07T17:45:56","slug":"citizens-to-rally-at-governor-larry-hogans-mansion-against-transcanada-pipeline","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=3240","title":{"rendered":"Citizens to Rally at Governor Larry Hogan\u2019s Mansion Against TransCanada Pipeline"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Citizens from the tri-state region <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/easternpanhandleprotectors\/?hc_ref=ARREUF3DA11_mgU5Pe78diuwnyiZfi0vuQG5UAleh_8yLV0a9WnuJi1XuLNkynYugXo\">will travel to Annapolis on February 15<\/a> to urge Maryland Governor Larry Hogan to put a halt to the proposed TransCanada Potomac Pipeline.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-3235\" src=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/river-294x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"294\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/river-294x300.jpg 294w, https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/river-768x783.jpg 768w, https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/river.jpg 822w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 294px) 100vw, 294px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe Governor rejecting the permit would stop, or severely delay, the use of the pipeline, since a supply line from Pennsylvania must go through Maryland and under the Potomac to supply the fracked gas to West Virginia,\u201d said Hedgesville resident Tracy Cannon. Cannon is an organizer with Eastern Panhandle Protectors. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBuses will leave from the Walmart in Martinsburg at 3 pm and from Hagerstown at 3:45 pm. \u00a0The ride is free to all. \u00a0The address for the rally in Annapolis is 100 State Circle.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cGovernor Hogan is supposed to make this crucial decision on or before March 15,\u201d Cannon said. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMountaineer Gas and TransCanada companies have been acquiring land in West Virginia and Maryland to build the proposed Eastern Panhandle Expansion Project pipeline since the spring of 2016.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIn the past week, I have seen and heard that tree cutting crews are now felling trees along the route of this proposed pipeline on both sides of Back Creek, which runs through Hedgesville, West Virginia.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3233\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3233\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3233\" src=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/tree-cutting-215x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"215\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/tree-cutting-215x300.jpg 215w, https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/tree-cutting.jpg 469w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 215px) 100vw, 215px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3233\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Trees Cut Down Along Pipeline Route Near Back Creek<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBack Creek is one of the most pristine waterways on the East Coast. \u00a0This creek has been monitored and kept healthy by the hard work of the Blue Heron Environmental Network since 1991.\u201d \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe felling of trees on both of its banks first, before any other locations along the route, leads me to believe the gas company may start their construction of the pipeline by doing horizontal directional drilling under Back Creek as the first step.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBack Creek flows into the Potomac, which means any accidents or blow-outs during the potentially risky drilling process would pollute both the creek and the Potomac River.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOur situation with regard to the this project is now urgent.\u201d \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOn Thursday, February 15th, we will go to Annapolis, Maryland and surround the Governor&#8217;s Mansion and persuade him to reject the permit for the proposed pipeline to go under the Potomac.\u201d \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In an op-ed last month in the <em>Baltimore Sun<\/em> titled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baltimoresun.com\/news\/opinion\/oped\/bs-ed-op-0122-transcanada-pipeline-20180119-story.html\">Maryland Should Say No to Fracked Gas Pipeline<\/a>, Ann Bristow, who served on the Maryland Marcellus Shale Advisory Committee, called on Hogan to reject the pipeline.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis administration, the same one that supported a ban on fracking in Maryland, recently issued a fact sheet about this fracked gas pipeline entitled \u00a0\u2013 What You Need to Know,\u201d Bristow wrote. \u201cBut it omitted what they apparently don\u2019t want us to know: the possible harms to public health of constructing this pipeline.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Citizens from the tri-state region will travel to Annapolis on February 15 to urge Maryland Governor Larry Hogan to put a halt to the proposed TransCanada Potomac Pipeline. \u201cThe Governor rejecting the permit would stop, or severely delay, the use &hellip;
