{"id":3005,"date":"2017-09-24T19:48:37","date_gmt":"2017-09-24T23:48:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=3005"},"modified":"2017-09-24T19:51:29","modified_gmt":"2017-09-24T23:51:29","slug":"harpers-magazine-features-berkeley-springs-fight-against-mountaineer-gas-pipeline","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=3005","title":{"rendered":"Harper\u2019s Magazine Features Berkeley Springs Fight Against Mountaineer Gas Pipeline"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Harper\u2019s Magazine <a href=\"https:\/\/harpers.org\/archive\/2017\/10\/berkeley-springs-west-virginia\/\">is running a photo essay in its current issue<\/a> featuring a local farm family\u2019s battle against the proposed Mountaineer Gas pipeline.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-3004\" src=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/harpers-221x300.png\" alt=\"harpers\" width=\"221\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/harpers-221x300.png 221w, https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/harpers.png 302w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 221px) 100vw, 221px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe Kesecker family has been farming in Morgan County for seventy years,\u201d the magazine reports, alongside four pictures of the Keseckers and their farm. \u201cIn the spring of 2016, a company called Mountaineer Gas offered them a small sum of money if they would allow the utility to lay part of a pipeline across their property. The family declined, and the company sued them. This summer, a court ruled that under eminent domain, Mountaineer had the right to lay the pipe.
