{"id":2872,"date":"2017-06-06T12:30:50","date_gmt":"2017-06-06T16:30:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=2872"},"modified":"2017-06-06T12:33:44","modified_gmt":"2017-06-06T16:33:44","slug":"maryland-fracking-ban-celebration-to-highlight-fight-against-transcanada-mountaineer-gas-pipeline","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=2872","title":{"rendered":"Maryland Fracking Ban Celebration to Feature Fight Against TransCanada Mountaineer Gas Pipeline"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earlier this year, against all odds, Maryland banned fracking.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2871\" src=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/poster-1-232x300.jpg\" alt=\"poster\" width=\"232\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/poster-1-232x300.jpg 232w, https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/poster-1.jpg 612w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 232px) 100vw, 232px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The way it always happens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fueled by a grassroots movement. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From the ground up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now, the people who led that successful movement against fracking in Maryland are holding a celebration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This coming Sunday, June 11 at the Friendsville, Maryland Community Park from 1 pm to 10 pm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The community park sits at the confluence of Bear Creek and the Youghiogheny River.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The celebration will feature speakers from other area environmental battles, including those fighting the TransCanada and Mountaineer Gas Pipelines being proposed to transport fracked gas from Pennsylvania, under the Potomac River and C&amp;O Canal and Potomac River, through prime farmland in Morgan County, West Virginia and on east \u2013 probably for export overseas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Crede Calhoun, one of the organizers of the celebration, said any left over monies from the Maryland campaign to ban fracking will be earmarked for the fight against the TransCanada and Mountaineer Gas pipeline and for the fight against the Dominion Energy export facility Cove Point, Maryland.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The celebration will include music from a number of regional bands, including Little Bird, Rob Smith and Friends, Still Brewin, Fishermen, Mateo Monk, and the Expanda Band.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHave fun, make art, eat food, meet friends, picnic, laugh and dance,\u201d the poster for the event says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There will be local food vendors including Farm Up Food Truck, Working H Meats, Kona Ice and Bakers Rack.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The web site is called \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/takemetotheriver.us\/\">Take Me to the River.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Weather five days out \u2013 sunny with highs in the 80s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this year, against all odds, Maryland banned fracking.
