{"id":2710,"date":"2017-01-28T16:50:43","date_gmt":"2017-01-28T21:50:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=2710"},"modified":"2017-01-28T23:16:16","modified_gmt":"2017-01-29T04:16:16","slug":"larry-springer-at-ice-house-in-berkeley-springs-february-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=2710","title":{"rendered":"Larry Springer at Ice House in Berkeley Springs February 12"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You probably know Larry Springer as a playwright, raconteur, musician, band leader, principal, librarian and all around good fellow.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Wq7S70lqUzk\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>On February 12 at 2 pm at the Ice House in Berkeley Springs, Springer will give a talk about his life as a trumpet player at the infamous strip club in Baltimore in the 1950&#8217;s. <\/p>\n<p>Springer has written two plays that will be performed at the Ice House February 16 to 19 and February 23 to 26.<\/p>\n<p>At his talk on February 12, Larry will fill in the details of life as a musician in a famous Baltimore strip club. Refreshments will be served.<\/p>\n<p>One play &#8212; <em>Take It Off<\/em> &#8212; is set in a 1940s Baltimore strip club. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is autobiographical,\u201d says Springer. \u201cI was a 20-something kid studying at Peabody and wanted a gig playing my trumpet.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Springer was looking to play in a big band, but wound up at a strip club as a fill-in one night.<\/p>\n<p>While the setting and some of the language are rough, the characters \u201care real people like you and me &#8212; they\u2019re just trying to make a living and doing the best they can,\u201d Springer said. <\/p>\n<p>The play contains some exotic dancing, but promises no nudity. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will be very tastefully done,\u201d says Tom Brooks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNudity is not the point: it\u2019s the lives of these people that are fascinating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The second play &#8212; <em>Take My Demon&#8230;Please!<\/em> &#8212;  a boring, humorless man becomes possessed by the spirit of a comic. <\/p>\n<p>The play is along the lines of <em>The Exorcist<\/em> but with a twist. <\/p>\n<p>As one of the characters observes, \u201cWhen someone is possessed by a devil, you call a priest.When someone is possessed by a comic, you call an agent.\u201d <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You probably know Larry Springer as a playwright, raconteur, musician, band leader, principal, librarian and all around good fellow.
