{"id":2696,"date":"2017-01-11T11:36:41","date_gmt":"2017-01-11T16:36:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=2696"},"modified":"2017-01-11T11:36:41","modified_gmt":"2017-01-11T16:36:41","slug":"transcanada-open-house-in-hancock-on-february-9","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=2696","title":{"rendered":"TransCanada Open House in Hancock on February 9"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TransCanada will be holding an open house at the Hancock Town Hall in Hancock, Maryland on February 9 between 6 pm and 8 pm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2683\" src=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/pipeline-300x165.jpg\" alt=\"pipeline\" width=\"300\" height=\"165\" srcset=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/pipeline-300x165.jpg 300w, https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/pipeline.jpg 610w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the open house, TransCanada will give details about proposed gas pipeline project that will cut under the C&amp;O Canal and Potomac River about a mile and a half west of Hancock.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The proposed pipeline will hook up with another pipeline across the river in West Virginia that is being proposed by Mountaineer Gas. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Mountaineer Gas pipeline will carry fracked gas from Pennsylvania south to Berkeley Springs, West Virginia and then east to Martinsburg.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TransCanada spokesperson Scott Castleman said that \u201cin regards to our Eastern Panhandle Expansion Project, community members will be able to view the proposed route, meet individually with members of the project team and have questions answered at our open house.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The National Park Service has yet to approve an application for TransCanada to survey an area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The proposal has drawn protests from residents concerned about the impact of the gas pipeline on the river and the canal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TransCanada applied for a survey permit in September 2016 saying it hoped to begin the survey in October and complete the survey by the end of this year \u2013 and that it hoped to apply for a construction permit this month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But the National Park Service is sitting on the application to survey and won\u2019t say why.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TransCanada will be holding an open house at the Hancock Town Hall in Hancock, Maryland on February 9 between 6 pm and 8 pm.
