{"id":2635,"date":"2016-11-13T08:46:34","date_gmt":"2016-11-13T13:46:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=2635"},"modified":"2016-11-13T09:08:24","modified_gmt":"2016-11-13T14:08:24","slug":"dollar-general-fined-for-barricading-emergency-exit-door","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=2635","title":{"rendered":"Dollar General Fined for Barricading Emergency Exit Door"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dollar General was fined last month for barricading an emergency exit door in the back room of a store in Jonestown, Pennsylvania with a metal bar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2075\" src=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/DollarGeneralPostcard1.pdf-1-300x213.jpg\" alt=\"DollarGeneralPostcard1.pdf-1\" width=\"300\" height=\"213\" srcset=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/DollarGeneralPostcard1.pdf-1-300x213.jpg 300w, https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/DollarGeneralPostcard1.pdf-1.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cited Dollar General for repeat violations for blocking electrical panels and failing to maintain a clear path to an emergency exit door.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cDollar General continues its pattern of failing to maintain safe exit routes at its stores,\u201d said Dave Olah, area director of OSHA&#8217;s Harrisburg Area Office. \u201cDespite receiving more than one hundred safety and health violations at stores nationwide since 2010, which carried more than $1 million in proposed fines, the company has still failed to take corrective actions.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.osha.gov\/ooc\/citations\/DollarGeneral_1141463.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">OSHA fined the company $215,578.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Headquartered in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, the company operates more than 12,500 stores in 43 states and employs about 100,000 workers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In fiscal 2015, the retailer recorded sales of $20.4 billion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dollar General has put plans for a store ten miles south of Berkeley Springs on hold in the face of community opposition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>A company spokesperson says that<a href=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=2590\"> a decision will be made soon on whether to move forward with the store.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last week, Michael Hausfeld, a lawyer representing citizens in the community who believe the store would best be established in a location other than the intersection of Oakland Road and Route 522, wrote to Dollar General CEO Todd Vasos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAs a sound and responsible business dedicated to serving community needs, it would appear most constructive if the company would engage in dialogue with the community as to the appropriate location for this business,\u201d Hausfeld wrote. \u201cThere are viable options along the same corridor which would be consistent with the company\u2019s objectives and the community\u2019s best interests.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As the company may become a new member of the community, the present members of the community would like to meet to discuss this matter of mutual concern and potential benefit,&#8221; Hausfeld wrote. &#8220;In light of the expressed imminence of your decision we eagerly await an early reply.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dollar General was fined last month for barricading an emergency exit door in the back room of a store in Jonestown, Pennsylvania with a metal bar.
