Pritt is hovering around ten percent in statewide polls for Governor.<\/p>\n
But she\u2019s not getting the support from major labor groups, citizen groups, or pro-choice groups in the state.<\/p>\n
When Pritt left the legislature in 1996, she had a 100 percent career AFL-CIO voting record.<\/p>\n
She\u2019s still the most pro-labor candidate in the field.<\/p>\n
But the AFL-CIO is not supporting Pritt.<\/p>\n

Instead, they are supporting the state’s only billionaire — Democratic candidate Jim Justice \u2013 a coal operator whose companies have a long history of mine safety violations.<\/p>\n
An NPR investigation that aired earlier this month<\/a> shows that Justice’s coal mining companies still fail to pay millions of dollars in mine safety penalties two years after an earlier investigation documented the same behavior.<\/p>\n The NPR analysis of federal data shows that Justice is now the nation’s top mine safety delinquent.<\/p>\n Jim Justice\u2019s mining companies owe $15 million in six states, including property and minerals taxes, state coal severance and withholding taxes, and federal income, excise and unemployment taxes, as well as mine safety penalties, NPR reported.<\/p>\n Pritt is the only pro-choice candidate in the race.<\/p>\n Yet, West Virginia Free Action Fund, the political arm of the state\u2019s pro-choice group, is not endorsing any candidate in the race for Governor.<\/p>\n And West Virginia Citizen Action Group sent out an email last month calling on its members to phone bank and canvass for AFL-CIO supported candidates.<\/p>\n At the top of the list? Jim Justice for Governor.<\/p>\n When Pritt asked WVCAG\u2019s executive director Gary Zuckett how they could support a billionaire coal operator with a record of mine safety recidivism over a citizen advocate who had received awards over the years from CAG, Pritt said that Zuckett told her \u2013 \u201cWe only have a month left. I don\u2019t want to get into a battle with (West Virginia AFL-CIO president) Kenny Perdue.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWhen you don\u2019t have enough integrity to support the candidates who have been to the wall for you, other candidates will look at that \u2013 and they are not going to go to the wall for you in the future,\u201d Pritt said. \u201cYou are sending a message saying \u2013 you don\u2019t care about what you say you care about.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Mountain Party candidate Charlotte Pritt is the only pro-labor candidate, pro-choice candidate, pro-environment candidate in the race for Governor of West Virginia.
