{"id":2402,"date":"2016-08-10T10:49:04","date_gmt":"2016-08-10T14:49:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=2402"},"modified":"2016-08-10T10:54:03","modified_gmt":"2016-08-10T14:54:03","slug":"carpenter-ants-and-larry-groce-at-buddy-lous-in-hancock-august-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=2402","title":{"rendered":"Carpenter Ants and Larry Groce at Buddy Lou\u2019s in Hancock August 19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Carpenter Ants, West Virginia\u2019s premier rhythm and blues band, are coming back to <a href=\"http:\/\/buddylous.com\/event\/live-music-carpenter-ants-featuring-larry-groce-host-nprs-syndicated-show-mountain-stage\/\">Buddy Lou\u2019s in Hancock, Maryland<\/a> on Friday August 19 between 6 pm and 9 pm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_IRDy1jA19U\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They will be joined by Larry Groce, host of West Virginia Public Radio\u2019s Mountain Stage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The band\u2019s trademark is country soul, typified by the band\u2019s moving cover of Mahalia Jackson\u2019s How I Got Over. (You&#8217;re going to have to go to Buddy Lou&#8217;s to hear it, can&#8217;t find it on the Internet.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2008, The Ants performed on the NPR show <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whada Ya Know? <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They performed twice on <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mountain Stage <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and once on the stage of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hancock Performing Arts Center. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Ants opened shows for the Blind Boys of Alabama, Southern Culture on the Skids, the Holmes Brothers, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Delbert McClinton, the Roches, and the Fabulous Thunderbirds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lipton calls the Ant\u2019s music &#8220;chicken-fried gospel soul&#8221; with lots of feel-good harmonies and a solid groove.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Carpenter Ants, West Virginia\u2019s premier rhythm and blues band, are coming back to Buddy Lou\u2019s in Hancock, Maryland on Friday August 19 between 6 pm and 9 pm.
