{"id":2081,"date":"2015-11-18T09:01:30","date_gmt":"2015-11-18T14:01:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=2081"},"modified":"2015-11-18T11:19:00","modified_gmt":"2015-11-18T16:19:00","slug":"dollar-general-ceo-todd-vasos-target-of-west-virginia-postcard-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=2081","title":{"rendered":"Dollar General CEO Todd Vasos Target of West Virginia Postcard Campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Residents of a rural residential community in West Virginia are sending postcards to the Nashville, Tennessee home of Dollar General CEO Todd Vasos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/DollarGeneralPostcard1.pdf-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2075\" src=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/DollarGeneralPostcard1.pdf-1-300x213.jpg\" alt=\"DollarGeneralPostcard1.pdf-1\" width=\"300\" height=\"213\" srcset=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/DollarGeneralPostcard1.pdf-1-300x213.jpg 300w, https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/DollarGeneralPostcard1.pdf-1.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The message to Vasos &#8212; Don\u2019t Mess with Rural West Virginia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That message is printed in bold letters on the front of the postcard over a picture of the community in southern Morgan County ten miles south of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia where Dollar General has proposed to put another one of its stores.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the back of the postcard is a note to Vasos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cDear Todd Vasos,\u201d the note reads. \u201cAs you know, Dollar General wants to drop another one of its stores in our rural residential neighborhood here in southern Morgan County, West Virginia. We don\u2019t want it here.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe proposed Dollar General store would be across Oakland Road from a community church and across US 522 from Cacapon State Park,\u201d the note to Vasos says. \u201cThat\u2019s the peace and tranquility of a church and a park disrupted by the commercialism of another Dollar General.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Like oil and water\u2014the two don\u2019t mix.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThere are already three dollar stores in Morgan County &#8212; two Dollar Generals and a Family Dollar. If you really think our small county needs four dollar stores, then there is a suitable business park just about a mile south of Oakland Road. Put it there.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Communities around the country are standing up to Dollar General\u2019s rapid expansion plans into residential areas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just this week in Salisbury, North Carolina, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salisburypost.com\/2015\/11\/17\/rezoning-for-dollar-general-denied-in-east-rowan\/\">a local community defeated a proposed Dollar General store.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also this week, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wtvm.com\/story\/30477112\/auburn-residents-protest-new-dollar-general-store\">a community is Auburn, Alabama is protesting<\/a> a proposed Dollar General store that is being dropped right at the foot of their neighborhood.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And businesses and community leaders in Redwood Valley, California <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ukiahdailyjournal.com\/general-news\/20150602\/redwood-valley-residents-protesting-potential-dollar-general-site\">are protesting a proposed Dollar General there.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Residents of a rural residential community in West Virginia are sending postcards to the Nashville, Tennessee home of Dollar General CEO Todd Vasos.
