The Berkeley Springs High School baseball team hasn\u2019t been to the West Virginia state tournament since 1983.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s almost thirty years.<\/p>\n
They\u2019ve got a shot this year.<\/p>\n
<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>But the team has been inconsistent.<\/p>\n<p>Showing flashes of dominance.<\/p>\n<p>As in Saturday\u2019s 19-1 drubbing of Buckhannon-Upshur.<\/p>\n<p>And resilience.<\/p>\n<p>Battling back from an 8-0 deficit against Jefferson last week, to fall just short 9-6.<\/p>\n<p>But also making too many fielding errors.<\/p>\n<p>And having inconsistent hitting and pitching.<\/p>\n<p>At the top of the pitching rotation is Tyler Holt, who has gone 6-1, with his only loss coming last week against Jefferson.<\/p>\n<p>Jared Spielman’s improved fastball overpowered Buckhannon Saturday, going four strong innings and giving up only one run on one hit to secure the mercy rule shortened five inning victory.<\/p>\n<p>Jared Spielman also added a two run home run and another RBI single.<\/p>\n<p>Zach Wise went four for four and had five RBIs.<\/p>\n<p>Tyler Holt, Zane Mokhiber and Bret Foultz added two RBIs each.<\/p>\n<p>The Indians improved to 13-12 on the year.<\/p>\n<p>The last two games of the season are at Washington Monday at 4 pm and at home Thursday for Senior Night against Jefferson.<\/p>\n<p>Next week, Berkeley Springs is the number one seed in the Sectional tournament.<\/p>\n<p>The teams in the section are Berkeley Springs, Keyser and Frankfort.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a double elimination tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Keyser hosts Frankfort on May 7.<\/p>\n<p>Berkeley Springs plays the winner of that game on May 8 at Berkeley Springs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Berkeley Springs High School baseball team hasn\u2019t been to the West Virginia state tournament since 1983.
