Last week, Craig Blair introduced legislation (SB 348<\/a>) that would set up a pilot program to drug test welfare recipients.<\/p>\n That would be poor people.<\/p>\n But Blair is mum when it comes to drug testing corporate welfare recipients.<\/p>\n Why the double standard?<\/p>\n Blair did not return calls seeking comment.<\/p>\n Similar drug testing legislation is being introduced in other states based on the belief that those on welfare use drugs at a higher rate.<\/p>\n Put aside, for the moment,\u00a0arguments that such drug testing is unconstitutional, scientifically unsound, and fiscally irresponsible.<\/a><\/p>\n We wanted to ask Senator Blair — why drug testing for poor welfare recipients, but not for rich welfare recipients?<\/p>\n Let\u2019s take the case of West Virginia\u2019s only billionaire — Jim Justice.<\/p>\n Last year, Jim Justice\u2019s Greenbrier Resort<\/a> was the beneficiary of a $25 million tax break<\/a> that his lobbyist \u2014 then Democratic Party chairman Larry Puccio \u2014 rammed through the legislature on the last day of the session for the Greenbrier\u2019s new medical facility.<\/p>\n To Senator Blair\u2019s credit, he voted against the welfare payment to Justice.<\/a><\/p>\n But why drug test poor welfare recipients if you aren\u2019t going to drug test rich welfare recipients?<\/p>\n No justice there.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Ah, Craig Blair.
