{"id":1419,"date":"2014-10-25T17:36:41","date_gmt":"2014-10-25T21:36:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=1419"},"modified":"2014-10-25T17:36:41","modified_gmt":"2014-10-25T21:36:41","slug":"brenda-hutchinson-releases-two-new-radio-ads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=1419","title":{"rendered":"Brenda Hutchinson Releases Two New Radio Ads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">Independent Brenda Hutchinson released two new radio ads this week &#8212; one on her pledge to defend the wild and wonderful beauty of West Virginia and one on raising the minimum wage.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=1351\">A previous radio ad<\/a> addressed Hutchinson\u2019s opposition to Potomac Edison\u2019s proposed 17.2 percent electricity rate increase.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/brendaphoto.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1321\" title=\"brendaphoto\" src=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/brendaphoto-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">All three ads will be playing through election day on WDHC 92.9 FM in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Hutchinson is in a tight race for House of Delegates (District 58) against Republican Daryl Cowles.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/BRENDA-1.mp3\">In the wild and wonderful ad<\/a>, Hutchinson says that \u201cas West Virginians, we are proud of our state\u2019s majestic mountains and beautiful rivers, our state parks, and our bountiful hunting and fishing areas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cYet too often, our elected officials allow reckless corporations to run roughshod over our great state,\u201d Hutchinson says. \u201cI\u2019ve been to Kayford Mountain and Wetzel County and have seen with my own eyes the destructive practices of mountaintop removal mining and fracking. Earlier this year, a chemical spill in the Elk River contaminated Charleston&#8217;s drinking water supply.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cWhen I get to Charleston, I\u2019ll fight to protect our mountains, rivers and hunting and fishing areas,\u201d Hutchinson says.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cI\u2019ll push for a moratorium on mountaintop removal mining and fracking. And I\u2019ll work to protect the wild and wonderful state of West Virginia. On November 4, vote independent. Vote Brenda Hutchinson House of Delegates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Cowles favors mountaintop removal mining and fracking.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/BRENDA-2.mp3\">In the minimum wage radio ad<\/a>, Hutchinson says she\u2019s a \u201ca working woman &#8212; I\u2019ve always had to work for a living.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cAnd I\u2019ve had to worry about making ends meet,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cEarlier this year, the West Virginia legislature overwhelmingly passed into a law a $1.50 raise in the state\u2019s minimum wage from $7.25 an hour to $8.75 an hour. \u00a0The House of Delegates passed this raise by a vote of 89 to 5. \u00a0My opponent was one of the five who voted against it.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">He voted against it not because he believed it was was too little, but because he believed it was too much. That\u2019s just wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cIncreasing the minimum wage alleviates poverty,\u201d Hutchinson says. Increasing the minimum wage saves millions in welfare payments. And increasing the minimum wage leads to an an improvement in the public health. That\u2019s why more than 70 percent of Americans &#8212; left, right and center &#8212; favor increasing the minimum wage. And so do I. On November 4, vote independent.
