{"id":1213,"date":"2014-08-19T13:50:57","date_gmt":"2014-08-19T17:50:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=1213"},"modified":"2014-08-19T13:50:57","modified_gmt":"2014-08-19T17:50:57","slug":"wchs-tv-lifts-embargo-against-ed-rabel-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=1213","title":{"rendered":"WCHS TV Lifts Embargo Against Ed Rabel Campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WCHS TV in Charleston, West Virginia has lifted its embargo against Independent Congressional candidate and former CBS and NBC newsman Ed Rabel.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wchstv.com\/newsroom\/eyewitness\/140819_27359.shtml\">On it\u2019s 5:30 news broadcast yesterday afternoon<\/a>, WCHS mentioned Rabel\u2019s candidacy for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>On the segment, WCHS TV newsman Kennie Bass reported on the campaign ads being run by the candidates in the second Congressional district race &#8212; Nick Casey (D), Alex Mooney (R) and Ed Rabel (I).<\/p>\n<p>The Ed Rabel segment focused on a <a href=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=1195\">video released by the Rabel campaign last week titled Man in Black. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>The video shows Ed Rabel in the West Virginia countryside explaining why he always wears black &#8212; to the words of Johnny Cash\u2019s classic song &#8212; Man in Black.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, <a href=\"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=1183\">Rabel alleged that his campaign was banned by WCHS TV<\/a> news director Matt Snyder.<\/p>\n<p>Snyder didn\u2019t like an op-ed article Rabel wrote last year for the Charleston Gazette.<\/p>\n<p>Rabel\u2019s article was titled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wvgazette.com\/Opinion\/201303270068\">\u201cLocal TV \u2018News\u2019 is a Waste of Your Time.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The station management issued a directive that no story would be aired on the station about Rabel\u2019s independent campaign for Congress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot after what Rabel said in his Charleston Gazette op-ed,\u201d Snyder said.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, national media critics,<a href=\"http:\/\/jimromenesko.com\/2014\/08\/13\/west-virginia-station-ignores-ex-newsmans-campaign-because-of-his-tv-news-criticism\/\"> including Jim Romenesko,<\/a> picked up the story of the station banning Rabel.<\/p>\n<p>And today, WCHS relented and mentioned Rabel\u2019s campaign for the first time on the air.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll\u2019s well that ends well,\u201d Rabel said. \u201cThere\u2019s no place in America for censorship &#8212; whether corporate or government. All candidates on the ballot deserve a fair shake from the media.\u00a0Our democracy relies on an informed citizenry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rabel, a West Virginia native, was the news director at WCHS during the early 1960s before moving on to an award winning career at CBS News and NBC News.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WCHS TV in Charleston, West Virginia has lifted its embargo against Independent Congressional candidate and former CBS and NBC newsman Ed Rabel.
