{"id":1163,"date":"2014-07-30T19:38:22","date_gmt":"2014-07-30T23:38:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=1163"},"modified":"2014-07-30T19:38:22","modified_gmt":"2014-07-30T23:38:22","slug":"independent-ed-rabel-rips-casey-and-mooney-for-supporting-mountaintop-removal-mining","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=1163","title":{"rendered":"Independent Ed Rabel Rips Casey and Mooney for Supporting Mountaintop Removal Mining"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">Independent candidate Ed Rabel criticized his rivals &#8212; Democrat Nick Casey and Republican Alex Mooney &#8212; for supporting mountaintop removal mining.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Rabel is running against Casey and Mooney for Congress in West Virginia\u2019s Second Congressional District.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/At4yAp6lRJQ\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cCasey and Mooney support policies that have destroyed \u00a0and continue to destroy West Virginia\u2019s beloved mountains, polluted its waters, destroyed its wildlife and sickened its people,\u201d Rabel said.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cHundreds of mountains have been destroyed by this destructive practice,\u201d Rabel said. \u201cThat\u2019s why I support a federal moratorium on mountaintop removal mining (HR 526).\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Both Mooney and Casey oppose a moratorium.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Rabel traveled on Saturday to Kayford Mountain to view firsthand the devastation that mountaintop removal has wrought.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cWe&#8217;re beginning our fight right here, at the top of a West Virginia mountain,\u201d Rabel<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=At4yAp6lRJQ\"> says in a video released by his campaign.<\/a> \u201cThe mountain, Kayford Mountain, like our state and its inhabitants, is fighting for its very existence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cBecause of the failed policies of West Virginia Democrats and Republicans, this mountain, the very symbol of the mountaineer state is being destroyed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cIf we don&#8217;t determine new and better strategies for the state of West Virginia, then as this mountain falls, so to the future of West Virginia, its citizens, children, and grandchildren.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cEarlier this year, as if by omen, the drinking water of 300,000 citizens in the Kanawha Valley was fouled,\u201d Rabel said.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cIf we continue on this course, that is just the beginning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThat&#8217;s why I&#8217;m making this mountain the start of my campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cI pledge to save this mountain and every other mountain like it in the name of West Virginia, its people and our shared future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cSo, let us look to freedom.
