{"id":1011,"date":"2014-05-06T09:59:55","date_gmt":"2014-05-06T13:59:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=1011"},"modified":"2014-05-06T09:59:55","modified_gmt":"2014-05-06T13:59:55","slug":"lutz-faults-espinosa-for-not-introducing-gmo-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/morgancountyusa.org\/?p=1011","title":{"rendered":"Lutz Faults Espinosa for Not Introducing GMO Bill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mountain Party candidate Danny Lutz is going after Delegate Paul Espinosa (R-66) for not introducing legislation that would inform consumers about whether the food products they buy contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs).<\/p>\n<p>Lutz says that if elected, he would introduce such legislation.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/E4g92iXOZv0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Lutz said that the legislation has already passed two states &#8212; Maine and Connecticut &#8212; and is being taken up by other states, including New York.<\/p>\n<p>The Maine and Connecticut laws cannot be enforced until other states pass similar legislation. Vermont is also on the verge of passing such legislation into law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI attempted to get this bill introduced into this past session through Delegate Espinosa,\u201d Lutz said. \u201cHe declined, for whatever reason.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a matter of consumer sovereignty,\u201d Lutz said. \u201cPeople want to be free to choose what they put into their mouths or take off their plates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lutz was standing next to the historic <a href=\"http:\/\/wvpublic.org\/post\/jefferson-county-mill-listed-one-most-endangered-buildings-wva\">Feagans&#8217; Mill<\/a> on his property near Charles Town, West Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>Lutz plans to renovate the mill, which he calls \u201cthe only remaining intact and operable mill left in Jefferson County.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Feagans&#8217; Mill is the last of eight mills that operated on the south fork of Bullskin Run.<\/p>\n<p>Lutz says that when he renovates the mill, he won\u2019t use GMO wheat, corn or barley. GMO hasn\u2019t touched the mill and it never will, if it\u2019s up to Lutz.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe mill was closed fifty years before the advent of genetically modified organisms,\u201d Lutz says.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mountain Party candidate Danny Lutz is going after Delegate Paul Espinosa (R-66) for not introducing legislation that would inform consumers about whether the food products they buy contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs).
